i did not vote for barack obama, and for the record i did NOT vote for john mccain. i'm not very educated in politics nor how our government really works or doesn't work. however, after watching the inauguration, i have decided one thing is for sure. if our country, which has been saturated in prejudice and racism since its conception can overcome such a gross flaw and vote an african american to be president, then there are a whole lot of other weakness in our country that if united, we can overcome. i'm not saying that obama is the man to unite us and do such a thing. BUT i felt that everything he said in his inauguration speech was true, was uplifting and gave hope again to the american people.
I liked this quote from his speech: "For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength; not a weakness...and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace." And another quote: "A recognition on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world. Duties that we do not grudgingly accept, but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.” I believe God has blessed and will continue to bless America, as long as we acknowledge His hand and give our all to the difficult task before us. in the words of a beloved prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley, "We must try a little harder to be a little better."

I agree with you, Annie! It was a very touching auguration when America did come together. We're so blessed to live such a land where this change of leadership happens peacefully.
